CHRISTMAS FOCUS STYLE

There’s a rumour in the air….a whisper in the hallway….a rude interruption in the meeting….a special guest is on their way….a mystery appearance to be made…..and no it’s not Hazel’s new boyfriend!!

A fortnight ago Focus sped off to the remote the location of Alltnacriche, a Scripture Union centre near Aviemore. The mystery guest for the weekend was in fact the Saviour of our world - Jesus and we spent the time looking at how God surprised us by coming to earth the way he did.

On Saturday morning we looked at how Mary and Joseph were obedient to God’s instructions even though that meant public shame. We also had a go at archery, flying fox, ropes course and sports - if anyone can think of a way to connect these activities to the Christmas story please let us know!!

The festivities kicked into full swing and Saturday night saw a truly phenomenal Christmas dinner, Turkey and all the trimmings plus jelly and ice cream to wash it down! It was a strange sight to see a group in party hats pulling crackers in October. Full to the brim we headed back to the meeting hall to hear about personal encounters with Christ followed by a time for prayer ministry.

Sunday brought more glorious weather and a chance to discuss some of the issues raised at camp in our “Grill a Christian” question time. After an adventurous walk which involved much posing and bracken fights we had our fourth and final meeting. The subject was “Dare to Different”, a look at how we can live out our faith in the world around us and how Christmas should be different for Christians.

After a long journey home we arrived back to a rainy Prestonpans but our spirits were not to be dampened by the weather. An amazing weekend was enjoyed by all with people already signing up for next year.
